Mourning Dove Hunting Adventures Await You in South Florida

How We Hunt Mourning Doves

Your Mourning Dove hunt begins with registration at our camp and offices. Our experienced guides will then transport you to the fields, where you will be placed for safety and to respect other hunters. Once settled, it is important to remain as still as possible to prevent the birds from flaring off as they approach.

Our Mourning Dove hunts typically start around 1:00 pm during the season and generally last for three to four hours, depending on bird activity and weather conditions. Once you have reached your bag limit, our guides will transport you back to the camp and offices. Our knowledgeable guides will assist you in locating your birds and address any questions or concerns you may have.

Requirements and Regulations

To participate in Mourning Dove hunts, all hunters must possess a valid hunting license and a migratory bird permit. It is essential for hunters to be familiar with the regulations set by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for migratory bird hunting. Please visit their respective websites for the most up-to-date information.

What to Bring for a Successful Hunt

For your comfort and success, we recommend wearing camouflage shirts and pants or dark blue jeans, as well as a camouflage hat. Light-colored clothing should be avoided to prevent birds from flaring prematurely. We suggest using twenty- or twelve-gauge shotguns and a minimum of three boxes of low brass shot shells (#7.5 or #8). Shotguns must be limited to a three-shell capacity when hunting migratory game birds.

Additional items to bring include a cooler for your doves, something to sit on between flights, stationary mourning dove decoys (no mechanical mojo decoys), and a small cooler with drinks (no alcoholic beverages) for the fields. Please note that dogs are not allowed during our Mourning Dove hunts.

Weather and Other Considerations

While we hope for favorable weather conditions, we cannot control or be held responsible for interruptions caused by inclement weather. We recommend bringing rain gear and bug spray to ensure your comfort during the hunts. Shooting hours will be communicated to you upon field placement, typically ending about half an hour before sunset for safety reasons.
